Camellia oleifera (Tea-oil Camellia )

This shrub is native to China, where it has been cultivated for many years to produce cooking oil. Tea-oil Camellia is also widely planted as an ornamental for its showy fragrant flowers. The species has been in ornamental trade in Australia since 1843 and has not naturalised in this time. There is no evidence that Tea-oil Camellia is invasive outside its native range.
