Calodendrum capense (Cape chestnut)

This tree is native to southern Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa). Despite being in the ornamental trade in Australia since 1817, Cape Chestnut has not naturalised. There is also no evidence that Cape chestnut has naturalised, or become invasive, elsewhere outside its native range. Trees do not flower until they are 7 or 8 years of age. After this time, they produce large black seeds, which drop to the ground beneath the adult plant.
