Butia capitata (Brazilian Butia Palm; Jelly Palm; Wine Palm)

This palm is native to South America, including Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. This species has been in ornamental trade since 1817 and has not naturalised in Australia. There is no evidence it has become invasive outside its native range. Wine Palm produces an edible fleshy orange fruit, which makes it likely to be dispersed by birds and other animals. The trunk can grow to 4.5m with pale blue-green fronds.
