Brunfelsia latifolia (Yesterday today tomorrow; Kiss me quick)

(Brunfelsia maritima, Brunfelsia spruceana)

This perennial shrub is native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. It has been traded in Australia since 1843 and has not become naturalised in that time. There is no evidence that the species is invasive anywhere in the world. There are areas in NSW with habitats and climatic zones comparable to its native and exotic ranges. This compact honey-scented shrub produces flowers that start out purple and fade to white over time. The plant is regarded as poisonous for animals, and while all parts of the plants can be toxic, the berries and seed pods are particularly dangerous for dogs. The shrub reproduces by seed and suckers.
