Blechnum gibbum (Silver Lady Fern)

(Oceaniopteris gibba, Blechnum neocaledonicum)

This perennial fern is native to Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu. There is no evidence to indicate that the species has become naturalised or invasive outside its native range. However, its congener, B. appendiculatum, is reported as invasive in Hawaii. There are some areas in NSW that have a similar climate to the species’ native range. Reproduction is by wind- and possibly water-dispersed spores. Silver Lady Fern is a small tree fern with green, dissected, fronds. Generally prefers a warm, moist environment.
