Bambusa textilis (Slender weaver)

(Bambusa textilis var. gracilis)

Bambusa textilis is a naturally occurring species of clumping bamboo native to south-eastern China. It has tall slender stems and is utilised for privacy screenings, reaching 6m tall. The species has been in trade since 1904 and is widely cultivated, but has not naturalised in Australia. It is reported as invasive in Brazil. It only produces seed once every several years and does not spread by rhizomes, unlike Phyllostachys.
