Naturalised in Australia

Agave attenuata (Fox Tail Agave)

This perennial succulent is native to Mexico. The species has naturalised in Australia (WA, NT, QLD and possibly SA) and overseas (Canary Islands, Portugal, Italy and Libya). Although Fox Tail Agave produces seed, vegetative spread (via suckers and plantlets) is likely the main method of reproduction. There is no evidence that this species is invasive outside its native range. However other species within this genus, including Agave americana, are invasive in south-eastern Australia.
