Acer saccharinum (Silver Maple, Creek Maple)

(Acer coccineum, Acer dasycarpum)

Silver Maple is an exotic deciduous tree native to Canada and the USA. It can grow to 25m and has deeply lobed leaves which are bright green above and silvery white below. It has been in the Australian plant trade since 1843 and has become naturalised in NSW. It is not invasive in Australia or anywhere in the world, although it may be an agricultural weed in Canada. It has become naturalised in at least 9 other countries. The species produces winged seeds called samaras in late spring which are wind dispersed.
