Acer x freemanii ‘Jeffersred’ (Autumn Blaze Maple)

(Acer freemanii 'Jeffers Red', Acer x freemanii 'Autumn Blaze / Jeffersred', Acer x freemanii 'Jeffersred', Acer freemanii 'Autumn Blaze')

This exotic cultivar is an ornamental form of Acer x freemanii that was discovered in the late 1960s. It is a fast-growing deciduous tree. Its parent species is native to the Eastern United States. Neither this cultivar nor its parent has been registered as naturalised or invasive anywhere in the world. The Autumn Blaze maple is mostly sterile and flowers rarely, but if it does, the flowers are yellow, green or red. The name ‘Autumn Blaze’ or ‘Jeffersred’ is due to the colour of the foliage in autumn which turns from green into a bright orange-red.
