Acer oblongum (Himalayan Maple, Evergreen Maple)

(Acer buergerianum var. formosanum)

Acer oblongum (Evergreen Maple) is a semi-deciduous tree growing 9-15m in cultivation. It is native to mixed forests in valleys of parts of Asia 1000-1800m asl. There are several subspecies. This maple usually retains its leaves all year, except very cold conditions. It has oblong-ovate leaves that are pale green to white on the underside. It is not widely grown in Australia but is grown as a street tree in parts of Europe and USA. There is no evidence that it has naturalised or become invasive anywhere in the world.
