Chamaecyparis pisifera ((Sawara, False Cypress)

Chamaecyparis pisifera (Sawara, False Cypress) is an evergreen coniferous tree from Japan. It grows to 40m with a tall straight trunk. It is an important timber species in Japan and is widely grown in many countries as an ornamental tree. Reproduction is via seed. Sawara has been in trade in Australia since 1851 and has not naturalised. There is no evidence that it is invasive anywhere in the world.
