Ruellia squarrosa (Creeping Ruellia) is a sprawling perennial herb that likes damp shady environments. It is native to southern Mexico. Creeping Ruellia has violet blue flowers that appear throughout the year, these are followed by explosive seed capsules. The plant mainly spreads by rhizomes. It has escaped from cultivation in NSW and Qld. It is not recorded as invasive anywhere in the world.
