Rosa chinensis (China Rose)

(Rosa indica)

Rosa chinensis is one of the parents of the modern Iceberg Rose. It is a perennial shrub from south west China. It has been in cultivation in Australia since 1817 and has naturalised in several states. It is widely naturalised overseas but is not considered invasive anywhere. Close relatives R. rubiginosa and R. canina are invasive in Australia and prohibited from sale in several states. R. chinensis reproduces via seed, which may be spread by birds.
