Zoysia macrantha

Zoysia macrantha, Prickly Couch, is a perennial grass to 25cm native to South Eastern Australian states including QLD, NSW, VIC and TAS. Prickly Couch is a sand and soil stabiliser and is most commonly found near coastal dunes, and salt marshes. The species is not considered invasive anywhere in Australia outside of its native range. Prickly Couch forms mats and has become a popular turf plant. There are cultivars commercially available and two recognised subspecies.
