Podocarpus elatus

Podocarpus elatus (Illawarra Plum, Plum Pine) is a medium to large, evergreen tree, native to NSW and Qld. It has not naturalised in Australia outside its native range and is not recorded as invasive anywhere. It has bright green glossy leaves and the ‘fruit’ is a hard seed attached a fleshy, edible stem is dark purple when ripe. Plum Pine is a conifer, and has separate male and female trees. It does not produce flowers. It is popular as a street tree in Sydney.
