Thaumatophyllum xanadu (Xanadu Philodendron)

(Philodendron xanadu)

Thaumatophyllum xanadu (Philodendron xanadu) is a perennial herb with thick stems and deeply lobed light to mid green leaves. It has a clumping habit and grows 0.5-1.2m in a sunny position. It is a commonly used species in Australia, but its time in trade is unknown. The current name and status is based on scientific publication from 2018. There is some confusion over the origin of the plant grown under this name in Australia (cf Philodendron bipinnatifidum ‘Winterbourn’). There is no evidence that either plant has naturalised in Australia or become invasive anywhere in the world. There is little documentation on natural reproduction and dispersal.
