Petunia x hybrida (Hybrid Petunia)

(Petunia x atkinsiana)

Petunia x hybrida (Petunia x atkinsiana) is a hybrid of Petunia axillaris (large white fragrant flowers) and Petunia integrifolia (smaller purple flowers without fragrance). The hybrid was bred in Europe in 1834 and has been the basis of many varieties. Fragrance varies, and colours range from white, pastel pinks and mauves through to bold pinks and violets and multihued forms. The hybrid has naturalised in Australia (NSW, WA, LHI, NI and possibly NT and ACT) and several countries in Europe. It is not considered invasive anywhere. Hybrid plants reproduce via seed.
