Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Blue Spire’ (Russian Sage)

( Perovskia hybrida )

Perovskia ‘Blue Spire’ is an erect small deciduous sub-shrub to 1.2m, with white stems bearing deeply-divided, aromatic greyish leaves. Small violet-blue flowers in large plumy panicles in late summer and autumn. It is a cultivar of Perovskia atriplicifolia, possibly as a hybrid with P. abrotanioides. It has been in cultivation since 1961 and received an RHS Award of Merit in 1993. It has a long flowering period and may spread via suckering roots. There is no evidence that this hybrid is naturalised or invasive anywhere in the world.
