Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nanus’ (Dwarf Mondo Grass)

(Ophiopogon japonicus 'Nana', O. j. 'Minor')

Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nanus’ or ‘Nana’ or ‘Minor’ (Dwarf Mondo Grass) is an evergreen perennial, grass-like groundcover. It is a dwarf variety of Ophiopogon japonicus. It has soft dark green leaves growing <15cm. It is used as a ground cover and turf substitute in shady, low traffic, areas. Flowers, followed by round blue berries, are rarely produced. The plant spreads slowly via underground stolons. There is no evidence that Dwarf Mondo Grass has naturalised in Australia. There is some evidence that Ophiopogon japonicus has naturalised in other countries with a similar climate such as southern states of USA, but no evidence of impact of invasion.
