Macrozamia communis (Burrawang)

Macrozamia communis (Burrawang) is a cycad with a short truck. It has separate male and female plants. Female plants have large cones with bright orange-red fruit. The Burrawang prefers is most commonly seen in open woodland on sandy soils, but is widespread on a range of soils. It is native to NSW from Armidale to Bega. All parts of the plant are toxic. The leaves are dark green and tough. This species has been in cultivation since 1843. It is has possibly naturalised outside its native range, but is not recorded as invasive anywhere.
