Lagerstroemia subcostata (Crape Myrtle)

Lagerstroemia subcostata is a deciduous tree from SE Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan and The Phillipines) with smooth brown bark. Lagerstroemia subcostata has white, pink or purple flowers. Fruit is an oval-shaped capsule containing small, winged seeds. L. subcostata has larger leaves than related species. Time in trade in Australia is unknown. It has been cultivated and studied in the USA since before 2011. There is no evidence that this species has naturalised beyond its native range. There is little data available on its ecology or reproductive strategies.
